8:00 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. CDT

Opening Comments

8:15 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. CDT

Session 1 – FlyQ: Pesky Flies

After visiting dead animals, feces, manure, raw garbage, and sewers, filth-flying infections enter restaurants regurgitate digestive fluids and defecate where they feed and rest. Filth flies contaminate food storages, food preparation surfaces, food handling, food utensils, foods served, and foods consumed by customers. As a result, filth-flying infections contaminate health inspections, customer presence, social media reviews, reputations, and revenue. Effective control of flies is essential to food safety and public health. As a significant part of IPM, intuitive placement of insect light traps is both a monitor and control standard of practice. Attendees will gain a better understanding of pesky fly ecology, a primary step in solving pestiferous problems.

9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. CDT

Session 2 – Blood and Guts: Stupid Kills!

Stupid can get you killed! A safe, healthy workplace takes teamwork. To keep the workplace safe, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sets safety and health standards.

Pest control operators follow OSHA regulations, provide pest management professionals with information, equipment, training, and procedures to avoid job related injuries and illnesses. It is the PMPs responsibility to follow the rules set by the employer and to do their part in preventing accidents. After all, blood and guts, stupid kills!

10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. CDT

Session 3 – Anatomy of an insect ID

As an essential part of IPM, correct insect ID establishes the base upon which all-successive pest management decisions are made. Poor ID, poor pest management! Given the increasing liability of "getting the insect ID wrong,” it is important that the species is correctly identified through a "reasonable degree of the industry standard of practice or standard of care." Never risk your reputation on a poor method of ID resulting in an incorrect ID.
